Hazelton introduced Brahman blood into a herd of stud and commercial Herefords in 1958.

A.B.B.A Stud No. 39 was founded in 1960 with the purchase of purebred and full blood Brahmans from Waurina, Cherokee, Waverley, Whetheby, The Orient and Dundee Studs. In order to establish purity and type only full blood bulls were used in the herd for many years. This rule was later relaxed in order to establish superior fleshing and more recently a limited infusion on Indo-Brazil blood has been used. Hazelton Cattle have been sold in every mainland

state of Australia and exported to New Guinea, Solomon Islands, Indonesia, Thailand and Vietnam.
Our programme is based on easy care cattle that grow and produce under range conditions on predominantely speargrass pasture with heavy infestations of ticks and worms. This is done without supplement drenching or dipping.
We believe that good constitution is paramount in the breeding of cattle and this type of management enables
us to select for this trait. Another major objective is to produce cattle with eccelent weight for age and uniform fleshing hat can be adopted to most trade reqirements.
At Hazelton we run small herds of complementary infused breeds. In1970 we inseminated 400 Brahman cows with imported semen of pure Charolais bulls. We retained the pic of the females and for the base of our Charbray herd at approximately 3/4 brahman and 1/4 Charolais. The 3/4 Brahman content of our charbray cattle was found to be more desirable due to increased adaptability, tolerance to internal and external parasites and drought conditions.
