The Story Of Gipsy Plains

Robert Jacqueline and Clayton Curley are the co-principals of Gipsy Plains Brahman Stud situated near Cloncurry in Queensland's North West region.

A selected herd using registered brahman Sires with high EBVs has been in place since 1975 when the stud commenced.  Within the past 10 years, the Stud has sourced over 250 Registered females including 120 head from the dispersed stud, Isaac Marlborough.

The main priority at Gipsy Plains is to breed acclimatized herd bulls for the north west with excellent temperment, scale, bone, constitution, length & breed character .

The grey multi-sired herd is now based predominantly around JDH bloodlines that have enabled us to breed the type of cattle demanded in today's markets.

With the brahman industry making improvements to keep one step ahead of all other breeds, producing high quality red poll cattle with the above mentioned characteristics is a major focus for Gipsy Plains. Travelling to Queenslands sale rings throughout the years, we have successfully invested in highly sought after poll genetics.  Also helping to achieve this is an AI program conducted annually in our red and grey herds using the breeds leading genetics such as Huonfels Jacob Rio (poll), JDH Mr Crat Manso, 2001 Sire of the Year JDH Mr Larmou, and the highly decorated Glengarry Waco, along with our own leading sires.

Gipsy Plains Brahmans are well known for being Quiet, well framed, heavy, excellent doing cattle. With these characteristics firmly bred in we will continue to produce self sufficient surviving cattle for Australias arid temperate climate, suitable for the paddock and the plate.
